Top 9 Shitty Things Anti Intellectual Filipinos Say

You know what I’m talking about, turn on the TV you will be bombarded with it, go on the internet and you will be imbued in it. This anti intellectual culture probably represents 80% of Filipinos, it’s really distressing that in this country being a dumbass is cool, and being a learned fellow is something to be ashamed of. Educated fellows are forced to tip toe around these anti intellectuals in order to avoid being singled out and humiliated.

Now some of you may be pondering what makes an anti intellectual Filipino, here are some traits that may or may not qualify.

1.) Hates any intellectual discussion (would accuse you of being arrogant by just pointing out facts)
2.) Hates English
3.) TYpeS LikE tHIS
4.) Religious
5.) Adores TV personalities such as this
6.) Refuses enlightenment at all costs

Now that I have clarified the terms, here is the Top 9 Shitty Things Anti Intellectual Filipinos Say:

9.) Ikaw na!
Well this is the most common anti intellectual shit that gets thrown around, so common that it is infused in everyday conversation such as when congratulating someone. The sad part is anti intellectuals use this to shame other people, by saying this line it kinda ostracizes the intellectual for not taking part in their dipshit mediocre mentality.
8.) Sorry wala ako sa level mo eh
Same as "ikaw na!" however more direct since this line is specifically used to shame someone and pull them down. Saying this line exemplifies crab mentality in which the intellectual is shamed for being different, thus he or she must conform to the mAsA.
7.) So what? “insert ad hominem pun here” ka naman eh!
On a personal note I get this a LOT. This is totally irrelevant and is designed as a comeback and a pitiful one at that. The anti intellectual is trying to divert the topic, dumb you down and beat you with experience, well you know the saying.
6.) Wag mo na iexplain bobo na ako!
This line is usually said after the previous lines, once you try to enlighten the anti intellectual individual. This is their way of trying to protect their stupidity.
5.) Nagaaral ka lang dahil gusto mo ikaw lang ang magaling
Same as with number 7, isn't knowledge suppose to be a good thing? I guess the impact of this line surpasses all of the previous because it seems to combine all of them into an "anti intellectual hydrogen bomb".
4.) Dami mong alam!
Why is this such a negative thing for them? Isn't this suppose to be a good thing?
3.) Yun sabi ng simbahan eh
Look back in the defining traits of an anti intellectual and you will find religious. Its been documented that Religion has long been anti intellectual and would go through great lengths to maintain the status quo, whether it may be labeling one as a heretic or burning at the stake. This is manifested by anti intellectual Filipinos who use their religious beliefs to justify their bullshit. Using bullshit to justify bullshit, isn't that the fuckest thing ever?
2.) Di kaya ng powers ko!
You hear this a lot from dumb game shows and TV programs such as this and this. This line is a convenient scapegoat to avoid any intellectual discussion due to lack of knowledge or simply hating anything sophisticated.
1.) Nosebleed!
This is anti intellectual Filipino's cream of the crop, this is it's Michael Jordan, Manny Pacquiao, or Lionel Messi. My reaction to this line is the equivalent of a Pacquiao KO loss, or a heartbreaking 3 pointer from the enemy team. The word "nosebleed is a slap to every Filipino to walk this fucking planet , both intellectual and feeble idiot. This line is an insult to the intellectual, in the sense that they are being told that their knowledge are ruining people's day and is even causing a physical symptom. While for the idiotic masses that usually say this mother fucking line, this is an insult to them as well, since they admit that they are too dumb to understand anything. Whats ironic is, the idiotic masses are too feeble minded to understand that they are insulting themselves.

Tips to Anti Intellectual Filipinos
This segment is for the entire anti intellectual Filipino population on the internet. Here are tips that you can follow in order for you to put your long wasted brain cells to use. Now so that  you can understand I will go down to your lingo and explain.

1.) MaKIniG KaH: Hndi masama ma22, mas jologs mging tnga.
2.) Wag KnG EpAl: HndI aStIg mnG gaGo ng kapWa porKeT mas maY alaM silA saU, mAgiSip2 ka at tUlaraN mO silA.
3.) kYa to Ng pOweRz Mu: WalAng aayAw tHink poSitiB!

Author's Note: Sorry it took me a while to get this article done, since I was busy with other projects and I kinda had a writer's block.. Since the article was picked up and circulated before its completion, I realized that people do pay attention to my work and my message. I will continue to write and drop bomb shells. Thanks for reading  - The Pedantic Cynic

  4. The crappy noontime variety shows do shoulder a lot of the blame, but the educational system should not be blameless either. The curriculum is not built for asking questions or fostering creativity; it works best for those who are good at sucking up to teachers/cheating/rote memorization.

Despite the wide reach of vulgar game shows in Japan and dumb reality shows in the US, these countries still produce a lot of innovative ideas and are constantly regenerating economically useful technologies. Because although high school sucks, the academic environment for those who prefer to be geeks and smart guys exists, and you know a good idea can also give you a good future in case you decide to veer away from academe.

  5. - I use "Ikaw na!" for braggarts.
    - The same for "Sorry wala...".
    - "Dami mong alam!" for those who make things unnecessarily complicated.
    - "Di kaya ng powers ko!" and "nosebleed!" just became a habit. I just subconsciously say those phrases whenever I hear something technical/english in an informal setting. It doesn't matter if I completely understood whatever I heard, I just somehow say it.

  9. I think Nos. 1 and 2 depend on the circumstances. In essence they both mean that the person saying the term does not completely understand/has a hard time understanding what is being said. It does not automatically mean that they are shunning any kind of discourse. Under particular instances, it may be a sign that the person is asking the other to try explaining the topic in simpler terms. Also, again in particular instances depending on the person using the terms, they may also be taken as a self-deprecating way by which the person admits he/she lacks knowledge on the topic. And isn't acknowledging one's short-coming one step towards improving yourself?

  10. Qualification number 2: Hates English

'nga naman, ignorance is bliss!

  12. what can i say? you had me at your impeccable use of punctuations and precision in grammar just on your first sentence... NOT! what's worse than anti-intellectual Filipinos? those who pretend to be intellectuals to look down on other people.

this article is just plain absurd and shallow. what's with ostracizing intellectuals when this article simply just does that to those called anti-intellectuals? and what's with the homage to the English language, when the essay is written in cringe-worthy grammar?

in all its absurdity, this piece can only be one of those satirical pieces. surely, the writer intended it to be that way?

Yes says the one who poorly uses punctuation, let me take you to school and enumerate all of the grammatical errors in the first part of your comment.

1.) First letter of the first word must be in capital
2.) There is no such word as "punctuations", the plural of punctuation is just punctuation
3.) No need for triple periods

I can go on and on.

(in all its absurdity, this piece can only be one of those satirical pieces. surely, the writer intended it to be that way?)

Actually I think your comment is absurd, since its a comment full of grammatical errors pointing out the perceived grammatical error of another. Grammarception right?

    2. lol. I didn't say mine was impeccable. Not even yours is ("," vs "." or ";", its vs it's). I was even questioning the homage to the english language. but anyway, thanks for the lecture on:

      1) upper case. my phone apologizes for its utter lack of capability to auto-upper-case the first letter of the first word of every sentence i type on this site. my lazy finger pleas not guilty though.

      2) punctuations. "punctuations" is used as a shorthand for punctuation marks. in much the same way as you use "capital" as the shorthand for capital form, and "plural" for plural form. apologies if shorthand does not befit your reading pleasure, but befits your writing style.

      3) triple periods. sorry... if i used ellipses... for dramatic effects... should i be jailed for that?

ok let me dumb my points a few notches down for you. first is the pot calling the kettle black. pretentious intellectual looking down on anti-intellectuals by his standards, that sort of shit. second is making the english language a superior language. the point actually goes beyond him committing grammatical lapses - but i thought pointing this out would prove a point in a very efficient way; apparently not in your case. third - i didn't give my third, and several after that, because i was too sleepy and i couldn't hold my adhd-esque attention span any much longer.

      Adhominem

(pretentious intellectual looking down on anti-intellectuals by his standards)

Well the name of the blog is "The Pedantic Cynic", so I guess the article having a proud pretentious tone is part of his/her persona. (Looks like you don't know the meaning of the word Pedant, or Cynical, go Google it). The fact that you even included this in your comment is just stupid.

( second is making the english language a superior language.)

The author never stated that English is superior, he/she just stated that many anti intellectuals hate speaking English. BTW the word "English" should have a capital E.

(third - i didn't give my third, and several after that, because i was too sleepy and i couldn't hold my adhd-esque attention span any much longer.)

    6. haha so not only do i get a lecture on grammar, i also get a lecture on vocabulary. impressive schooling, this blog site provides.

ad hominem, well are two words.

and what does "hates english" imply? that english is a co-equal, even an inferior language to filipino? nope. it reeks of "i-can-speak-english-well-hence-i-am-better-than-those-who-don't" kind of mentality that only a person like you can understand. do we really want to discuss the socio-linguistic profile of filipinos? more importantly, if i do love english a lot, does that make me not an anti-intellectual? i don't think i agree with that.

before i forget the lecture on vocabulary, pedantic cynic surely gives the author the right to be pedantic and cynical, but surely it does not include looking down on other people, does it? last time i checked, neither was synonymous with contemptuous.

and what's with the anal retention on capital forms of letters? still my finger does not plea guilty. lol

yup just saw a doctor. all signs are normal. he concludes that sleeping is good for the health, and so is answering your comments for my sanity. but bravo for the subtle ad hominem there, not to mention your previous one. double standards, are we?

(pardon if this reply ignores the non sequitur commenter)

Could be? But that certainly is an unpopular opinion. Actually it points out the anti intellectualism of many Filipinos, it just so happens that anti intellectuals don't like English and the article was written in English. The article isn't about English or Tagalog, it is about anti intellectualism.

( but surely it does not include looking down on other people, does it?)

Actually in a way yeah, being Pedantic is being ostentatiously learned (or mayabang), so I guess looking down on other people is a part of the author's persona.

(and what's with the anal retention on capital forms of letters? still my finger does not plea guilty. lol)

You a Psych major? I think we should just stop this useless chatter on grammar, its going nowhere

  14. It's distressing that you end up blaming religion for the anti-intellectual mentality of the Filipinos. "Its been documented that Religion has long been anti intellectual and would go through great lengths to maintain." It has also been documented to the contrary. This debate is in almost every thread ever in the history of the internet, whether religion hinders the pursuit of knowledge. You should not spew mere thinks-and-thunks as fact as every good debater knows. Also lighten the fuck up have the times I hear these said/I say these like "IKAW NA!" it is in intellectual jealousy and awe. I say it instead of, "I'll show you! I can do that," so that I don't sound so competetive. Also saying "Ang nerd mo!" is a way of saying WOAH good job. True intellectuals take these as compliments and don't get offended.

  15. Whether Pedantic Cynic is angry at the world or not (as the shallow-heads say), whether these expressions are consciously or unconsciously said, these expressions are only a manifestation of anti-intellectualism.

  16. you may also add 'pilosopo' to the list.

this article may have its flaws but i agree with what you're trying to say. i've been called an elitist for 'preferring' foreign shows to local ones. it honestly has more to do with the show itself rather than where it is made. pinoys make shows that focus more on romance, which is a topic I don't enjoy that much.
